Audio Xciter - DSP Enhanced Music Player App Reviews

87 add

I have the same comments as just about everybody else on here, great app, great sound enhancement, seems superior to other sound enhancement apps too...Only major issue is that the app crashes constantly and literally hasn't been updated for years to fix said issues. What gives?? We all paid for the app, and still are!

Awesome sound!! No recent updates

The sound is immense, even without a current update. Hope the developer is still around. The best sounding app I own.

Crashes & quits

Apparently because of apples DRM encoding but this app needs to be fixed anyway. More than a few users have this problem. Word of mouth is the worst way to lose control of your market. Please fix this problem and pay attention to us. Thank you

RØDE ASSURED ME AN UPDATE IS COMING

RØDE ASSURED ME AN UPDATE IS COMING This was on September 12 (see below) George Mackenzie (RØDE Microphones) Sep 12, 3:47 PM AEST Hi James, Thanks for getting in touch and I really appreciate your feedback. We are in the process of updating the App so please stay tuned into our social media channels for more official info! Let me know if you have any other questions. Kind Regards, George Mackenzie Aphex International Sales & Product Manager Theyre not answering my emails and something I thought would finally happen ... well, it may not. Its too bad because the audio is excellent, but the ownership? Not so much. ************************** Older Reviews First things first, although it appears Im reviewing the Demo Version, Im not. I purchased the best available version using an In-App-Purchase of approximately $3.99. Ive stood by this App for a long, long time! Want to know how long? Ive updated my iPhone to 4 or 5 new models without any App updates. I found the sound enhancement superior (a personal choice) to all the audio enhancers available and I like the fact unlike equalizer-type enhancers once you set your audio preferences, it responds to and enhances ALL your music. Theres no need to stop and readjust just because the song changed from Rock to Classical. Then DW of DWV personally tells me updating the App was among his top priorities (yadda yadda) once he got his (yadda yadda) mismanaged company in order (yadda yadda) because the App it was his favorite thing ever (yadda yadda yadda). After this big speech, he sells the App to RØDE Microphones (Im guessing as part of the package when RØDE bought out Aphex Audio). Well RØDE, show us what youve got!! Its your App now and your App opened a pop-up window inside reading; Rate Audio Xciter on the App Store. You asked, here it is. So how about this; why dont you show us all how much better RØDE Microphones is than Aphex Audio? Aphexs high-point was the creation (not support) of this App, so it should be a piece of cake!!

Wow!

*The workaround for the issues with crashing appears to be to put your tracks in playlists (or all of your tracks in a huge playlist).* The audio performance of this app is very impressive. It adds ambiance, depth, punch and presence, and a good deal of additional volume as well. You do need to switch to Custom mode and theres a thin line between enhancement and coloration. But with a bit of patient fine tuning its easy to find the sweet spot. I spent several thousand dollars on the aftermarket audio system in my Mercedes and it was 90% of where I wanted it. Audio Xciter more than made up the last 10%. Id give it 5 stars if the developer hadnt apparently abandoned it three years ago, and if the GUI didnt look like a pop up ad.

Please update this wonderful app

This app has the best sound of any out there. Ive tried them all. It blows the rest away by far, however its sorely lacking an update... for three years now. Not fair for those of us whove paid and would love to continue to enjoy this irreplaceable app. The problems it has will only be getting worse, not to mention the improvements that could be made in the 1st place. The only thing the app does right is what its main function is - Make music sound the best it can be.

Too many bugs

Unfortunately not compatible with iOS 6 as it crashes all the time. Not reliable. Too many lags when you want to have Access to your music from the app. Not compatible with iTunes Match. Its a pity because it sounds pretty nice... When it works.

High mode no longer available

high mode is no longer available even for those who paid U$0,99

good

the app is good but the equalizer of swhipy is bether and the player top

Great sound - with one trade-off!

Is it really so hard to play consecutive songs without that short pause in between? Does not really matter with most pop/rock productions, but try Jean Michel Jarres Oxygene that way... Update, please. 5 Stars in return then ;-)

Needs update

Several bugs make the experience with the app unpleasant. In landscape mode, only a minority of covers are shown, the rest wont load even if you wait and wait ... And some entries in the list of artists appear twice, which is nonsense. As far as I remember, there hasnt been an update in the last months. Wouldnt buy again.

Yeah but

Works very well, only problem is the in-app purchases are not restoring. You should probably wait until its fixed to buy any of. He upgrades

GTRAG

Bought in app upgrade 7.99 , battery hog!!! My battery life went down 40% in 2 hrs!only use it if its plugged in

Waste of space

Being an audiophile, I actually notice things. This is basically an equalizer set to the ears of a general consumer. The treble and bass are definitely boosted. Im assuming the bass is being boosted because stronger bass is "better" for the general consumer and the treble is boosted to offset the often recessed treble on common low consumer level headphones. Theres some static in the background. Higher levels of distortion using this app. I tested this with a WAV file (full lossless) with the app and on the regular music player with no EQ. Maybe its because my music wasnt compressed? But I have a hard time understanding the drop in quality using an uncompressed music file. The bottom line: definitely a waste of time and money. Just cheap equalizer tricks to make the general consumer think it sounds better. If you want a real EQ app, get EQu, much better and cheaper.

With the price $7.99. Its good.

Cant complaint.

Needs improvement

I can notice a difference in quality when listening to electronic music. So for that it gets 3 stars, but if this is going to be my default music player make it more the built in iPhone music player. No opening load screen, being left on the same song when you close it, fix the sliding/scrubbing issues, allow it to play while using other apps (facebook?), make the field of touch bigger for forward and backwards. I feel like I have to hit directly in the center to make it work. Overall if needs some work to be go-to music player every time.

Dont recomend it

Doesnt worth it

Excellent

I absolutely love this app. I downloaded it a few weeks ago and noticed the difference in the sound quality immediately. I would hit the little icon in the middle of the screen which dissengages the app so youre listening to the raw and terrible MP3 sound. At first I thought this might be a gimmick so I switched to the basic iPod music player and altered the equalization settings such as "Rock", "Acoustic" "Treble Boost" etc. These did not even compare to the sound quality I would get with Audio Xciter. It simply blew my mind because in reality I"m a vinyl guy, and though its not as good as vinyl, its so much better than the regular MP3, or MP4 audio you get normally. Now, originally when I downloaded it, it was extremely buggy. It would freeze my iPod at least once every time I used it. If I got a few minutes into a song then switched to another song without stopping the previous one, it would start to play the next song from the few minute mark, but it would be skipping like a defective CD. Then when I would try to stop the song, my whole iPod would freeze and Id have to shut it off completely and power it on again. Not all the time, but just enough to be aggrivating. But then about a week ago they released a firmware update and fixed most of the bugs. Its not quite perfect yet as far as the bugginess goes. but it hasnt frozen my iPod since the firmware update. It does use up the battery faster than if you listened to music normally, but I charge my iPod each night anyway so thats not an issue for me. Once all the bugs are worked out Ill give it 5 stars. But aside from everything I said whether good or bad, I do not listen to my music using the native iPod player anymore. You should download the free version to give it a try if youre contemplating downloading but cant decide.. You will not be dissapointed. And to those that commented on the previous version that it was nothing more than an equalizer...of course its just an equalizer. But it makes your music listening a much more enjoyable experience than the native player. Okay, Im done.

Blown away (the detail that is)

Have you ever used a photo editing app with a filter that blows away detail to produce a dramatic look? Well, those results look like music in this app sounds. More edgy, but not clearer or better.

Some people just dont know how to use it

This system is great. Now im not an audio or EQ buff but being a musician/vocalist; it is a better sound quality then the IPOD EQ for sure, plus I find with the latest update it is just as good or even better then some of those EQ changers and a lot most easy to use. I spent about 10 bucks on the "awesome" EQ changer apps out there but found them either glitchy, way too much work or major major battery drain. Now for a few of the comments that stated that they just pumped up the treble or bass to fool customers, or its a grainer sound, I would suggested going on their website which does explain a lot of things, plus how to use it or how they achieved it. I would suggested those who are impressed and would like to control the levels, pay the "now" 4.99 and get the studio version; that way you can hear your own differences. Yes, some songs, levels have to be tweaked because as we know not every genre of music has the same punch. But I find adjusting songs even a little helps a lot! Plus there are more updates to come which include possibly having the option of customizing each track to its genre. Keep it coming!
